ContraFlex® is a jet fire rated flexible protection jacket with high performance insulation properties.
Many applications within the oil, gas and petrochemical industries require flexible, user-friendly fire protection systems that can be easily fitted, removed and refitted without specialist tools, yet be of durable construction, able to withstand the rigours of service duty. A key concern of the industry, corrosion under insulation, calls for fire protection systems that incorporate hatches and access areas for easy and efficient inspection access. In response to these industry requirements Advanced Insulation developed a range of tailor-made flexible jackets designed to provide high performance insulation and jet fire resistance to process equipment where frequent maintenance access is required – ContraFlex®.
ContraFlex® is certified to both the International Standard ISO 22899-1 “Determination of the Resistance to Jet Fires of Passive Fire Protection Materials, Part 1: General Requirements” and to the guidance criteria of the Health and Safety Executive, Offshore Technology Report OTI 95 634 “Jet Fire Resistance Test of Passive Fire Protection Materials” (Lloyds Register certificate number: SAS F090134). ContraFlex® has proven to be capable of withstanding temperatures of 1,350°C for two hours with the back face temperature only rising by 122.9°C and exposure to blast overpressures of 2.57bar whilst achieving thermal conductivity (K value) of 0.02WK-1m-1 and thermal transmittance (U value) of 0.5524W/m2K. All these test results have been achieved using a jacket with thickness of 61mm, only two thirds of conventional jacket systems.
ContraFlex® provides insulation solution to systems operating at extreme temperatures. Performance of some equipment can be adversely affected by extremely low temperatures. ContraFlex® can withstand temperatures to -60°C.
The ContraFlex® team has over ten years experience in the manufacture of flexible jackets as well as an understanding of a wide range of applications involving passive fire protection and insulation requirements.
