Advanced Insulation Systems (AIS), formerly known as Alderley Materials Ltd, specialises in the manufacture and supply of unique phenolic resin based syntactic foam insulation. The ContraFlame® JF120 system which provide an integral external thermal insulation and passive fire protection (PFP) to J120 has been in use since late 1990 in offshore topside application including Platforms, FPSO, FPU.
Our range of Topside products and services includes:
Fully bonded all-phenolic, jet fire rated system with low smoke and toxicity levels providing passive fire protection, thermal insulation, corrosion protection, structural stability as well as impact and blast resistance. The ContraFlame® system design to provide Integrated solution providing both thermal insulation (0.05 Wm-¹K-¹) and passive fire protection to process equipment, risers, separators, flare stacks, process pipework operating at elevated temperatures (+185°C to -196°C). Additional applications include under decks insulation/protection, provision of thermal shock protection for structural steel e.g. LNG spills and for personnel protection.

A variation of the ContraFlame® JF120 system has been developed to meet stringent new industry standards for fire protection on risers. ContraFlame® JF120-200 limits the back face temperature rise in jet fire conditions to only 200°C in the critical wet-zone area between the sea surface and the facility's fire protection systems. The weight of the installed ContraFlame® JF120-200 system is as little as 50% of the weight of comparable systems and the material application can be carried out on site without supplementary curing or vulcanising procedures.
Pre-cast composite systems based on a unique phenolic syntactic foam and phenolic glass reinforced laminate. ContraFlame® is pre cast in custom-made engineered moulds to form removable, rigid and robust shells providing both thermal insulation and passive fire protection. The system main application includes processing pipe (for pipes 1” to 36”), flare stacks, valves and actuators, flanges. ContraFlame® Shells & Enclosures provide superior insulation properties (0.05 Wm-¹K-¹) while exhibiting a wide tolerance to elevated & low temperatures (+185°C to -196°C).

ContraFlex® a range of tailor-made flexible jackets designed to provide high performance insulation and jet fire resistance for process equipment where frequent maintenance access is required. The ContraFlex® range includes simple, removable thermal insulation jackets that fulfil heat conservation, winterisation, personnel protection roles. ContraFlex® is certified to International Standard ISO 22899-1 and has proven to be capable of withstanding temperatures of 1,350°C for two hours, with the back face temperature only rising by 122.9ºC, and exposure to blast overpressures of 2.57 bar.
Subsea High Temperature / High Pressure Integral External Insulation
Insulation materials are required and selected by the industry as suitable for installation on subsea production systems. The InSpec specification covers the whole range of offshore insulation applications. Advanced Insulation Systems provide system solutions for ‘Integral External Insulation’ and in particular - ‘subsea components' (section 1.3.1b.)such as:
• Xmas trees
• Wellheads
• Manifolds and
• Jumpers Spooles
Our range of Topside products and services includes:
Insulation foam which consists of hollow glass microspheres dispersed within a multi layer syntactic phenolic composite system which is tailored to provide an impermeable and robust insulation medium for static subsea installations, wellheads and pipelines operating at temperatures up to 200°C and in water depths up to 2,500m. The system can be applied fully bonded or as a pre cast multi layer moulded components.
Insulation foam which consists of hollow glass microspheres dispersed within a Silicone resin matrix which provides the necessary degree of integrity and flexibility to be used in dynamic as well as static subsea structures. ContraTherm® C25 low coefficient of thermal conductivity and robust mechanical structure makes the C25 ideal for insulation applications on subsea production equipment including but not limited to Xmas trees, manifolds, jumpers/spool pieces flow line end terminations and associated equipment operating at temperatures up to 200°C and in water depths up to 2,500m.
High Visibility,Non toxic, Anti-fouling underwater marker system designed for grater surveillance and enhanced subsea monitoring primarily for ROV. C.TAG/® base material is silicone coupled with flurescent dyes, the system is design for operation in water temperature ranging from -40c to +100c . C.TAG/® is backed by over 10 years of sea trails the results showed zero deterioration and no visual difference. The C.TAG/ system is extremely durable to both sharp and impact damage from ROV. C.TAG/ is complimented by wide range of fixing methods to suit all subsea equipment.
